✨ Highlights
The Sandstone Overhang: A striking rock shelter reinforced with stone pillars, built by soldiers training here before WWI — one of the track's best-kept secrets.
Moores Creek: Wandering beside mangroves, rock platforms and sandstone overhangs as the bush gives way to a lush, almost tropical feel.
Crossing Roseville Bridge: A quirky change of pace as the track brings us up and over the bridge, with lovely water views before we drop back down into the National Park.
The Lyrebird Track Finale: Finishing our walk hugging the waterline of Middle Harbour Creek, keeping an ear out for the lyrebirds this track is named for.
Davidson Park: Arriving into the open parklands of Davidson Park — the perfect spot to stretch out, regroup and toast a walk well done.
🫶 Why You'll Love This Walk
We start near quiet suburban streets in East Lindfield before slipping into the bush almost without noticing. Early on, we'll pause at a beautiful sandstone overhang with a story to tell — its stone pillar supports were built by soldiers training here before World War I. From there, the track eases us down toward the water, following Moores Creek past mangroves and rock platforms as the bushland turns lush and green. We'll cross a couple of timber bridges, catch glimpses of Middle Harbour Creek through the trees, and over beneath Roseville Bridge before the track opens up again into Garigal National Park. To finish, we join the Lyrebird Track for a gorgeous, gentle stretch along the water's edge, arriving into the wide-open parklands of Davidson Park — a lovely place to sit, breathe and soak it all in before we head home.
🥾 Activity Level & Track Grade
Easy to Moderate: A mostly shaded bush walk following well-formed tracks and fire trails, with some gentle undulation and a few sets of stairs down toward the creek.
The Terrain: A mix of dirt tracks, timber bridges, some stairs, and short sections of uneven or rocky ground near the overhangs.
Elevation: Mostly gentle, with the descent from Lindfield down toward the creek being the main descent of the day.
Fitness: A comfortable distance for a moderately fit walker, taken at a relaxed, chatty pace with regular stops to take it all in.
